Be Prepared, what to bring
When preparing for a mountain bike ride, there are a few essential items that you should bring with you. Here is a list of some of the most important things to pack:
Bike: Obviously, you’ll need a mountain bike for the ride. Make sure it’s in good working condition and has been recently serviced. If you’re renting a bike, check that it’s the right size for you.
Appropriate clothing: Dress for the weather and bring layers in case conditions change, and in North Wales you could have all 4 seasons in a day. Choose comfortable, moisture-wicking clothing that won’t restrict your movement. Consider padded shorts to make the ride more comfortable.
Fluid and snacks: Staying hydrated is one of the most important things when riding, especially if you are in the saddle all day. So bring plenty of fluid with you. It’s also a good idea to pack some energy-rich snacks to keep you fueled on the trail.
Helmet: A helmet is an essential piece of safety equipment that you should always wear when riding. Make sure it fits properly, is free of dents and cracks and is comfortable to wear. At GuideMTB we have a policy of no helmet no ride.
Mobile phone: Bring a fully charged mobile phone in case of emergencies and to take photos of the ride, how else are you going to brag to your mates where you have ridden. Don't worry our guides will take pictures and videos or the ride as well to capture the moment.
Sunglasses or goggles: Its good practice to wear glasses or googles to protect your eyes from trail debris that is flicked up, and small branches that may cross the trail.
The following two items are not essential for our Guided Rides as our guides carry this equipment, however it is good practice to get to know what you should have should you venture out by yourself.
Bike repair kit: It’s always a good idea to bring a basic bike repair kit, including a spare inner tube, tire levers, and a pump. You never know when you might need to make a repair on the trail.
First aid kit: Accidents can happen, so it’s a good idea to bring a small first aid kit with basic supplies such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, and pain relief medication.
